February 4, 2024 Studio Concert: A Full House
— ◆ —
A full house! The studio’s first concert of 2024 concluded successfully on Sunday, February 4.

Everyone worked hard in rehearsals and gave a wonderful dance performance.
Beni explained that, while renting the studio to practise alone is very important, it is also very important to rehearse with friends, with one person providing palmas, the rhythmic handclapping accompaniment, while another dances.
Do try incorporating this approach into your own rehearsals!
Many students probably feel that it is still too soon for them to take part in a studio concert. However, those who have performed so far did not take part simply because they had already become accomplished dancers.
In practice, they decide to perform and then work hard in rehearsals to prepare for that date. I believe that overcoming this challenge always brings growth for each person.
Do take on the challenge yourselves next time!

Some students shared their reflections with us, and we would like to introduce them here.

Hata Katsuko’s Reflections
This was my second solo performance. The first time, just getting through the whole dance took everything I had. A year and a half had passed since that performance, and this time I think I learned a great deal by reviewing my earlier private lessons, watching various videos, and rehearsing in a group of two or three with a guitarist and a cante singer. There were still many things that I could only understand through the experience of performing live.
The guitar, the cante, the palmas, the jaleo… all there to accompany my dancing. I am grateful to everyone. Thank you so much. I want to keep learning from Beni and the other teachers at the studio, find my own way of dancing, and learn to dance joyfully and beautifully while savouring the experience. I look forward to your continued guidance.

Nakamura Noriko’s Reflections
I had the opportunity to dance a soleá at the studio concert.
I was able to dance the soleá I love so much through to the end thanks to the support of Beni, the teachers at Beni Studio, my friends, and my family.
I am filled with gratitude. Thank you so much.
To prepare for the studio concert, I rehearsed together with my classmates, with Go (豪) on guitar and Miho (美保) singing cante.
Go and Miho gave very precise advice and pointed out things I had not noticed myself. When my classmates danced, I could also practise palmas and jaleo, and I learned a great deal. Having fellow dancers alongside me gave me confidence. Thank you so much.
I was happy to be able to dance with the support of such wonderful artists as Go (豪) on guitar and Miho (美保) singing cante.
