In the teacher training sessions, Beni teaches BG’s teaching team and assistant instructors the choreography used in class, as well as how to teach it to students.
This time, we continued the work from the previous session and once again focused on castanet practice.
After reviewing the basic playing technique, Beni taught us the names of the strokes (TA, RIA, PI…). We also practised playing continuously in different positions and while moving our arms.
Moving the arms correctly while feeling the weight of the castanets and producing a clear sound is quite challenging. Although the teaching team has experience playing castanets, it is still difficult to produce a good sound without daily practice. Beni also instructed us to practise every day.
We will keep working hard at our practice, hoping that one day our students will be able to dance sevillanas and other dances with castanets.
